My Little Valentine,

Today i choose to remember -
that sweet little girl from SMCC,
that little gem of my heart -
who is the apple of her daddy's eye...

i remember teaching you all the skills:
cooking, cleaning, mopping and car-washing -
and both of us doing it together,
and i remember laughing at all your little pranks...
and i remember teaching you cursive writing,
and this is what i got, in cursive:

"Thank you for being there when i needed you most -
for being my rock when i should have been yours;
thank you for believing in me, even when i doubted myself,
thank you for being the one person i could trust;
no matter what, no matter where,
but most of all thank you for being my mum -
a mum i am so proud to claim...

You've taught me to be kind'
and to treat people with care -
for that i am very thankful
and very much aware...
when i grow up up -
i want to follow your footsteps
and to be as loving
and caring as you,
when i grow up
i want to follow your footsteps...

I look at you
as a loving person
with hair that's always perfect;
you use no make-up
but there is no need:
you are beautiful without it -
not only on the outside,
but on the inside...

I am happy
when i hear your laughter
the laugh that i hear so often
that tells me everything is okay...
you've taught me to be kind,
and treat people with care -
for that i am very thankful,
and very much aware..."

That's my girl - the gem of my heart:
who shines like the North star on a dark night...
who laughs with me when i am happy,
and cries when i am sad...
that's my little girl - gem of my heart!

  1. The depth of her heart is seen when she had publicly affirmed and commended on her beloved mother though being the apple of daddy’s eye. You have also been her stronghold where she can anchor and a tower where/when she can take comfort/shelter or refuge. A skill like being kind and caring is hard to come by and acquired and more so in loving someone we don’t like, she has made the mark. She is indeed the “GEM of your heart”. I do feel she has emulated the mother well because of her total allegiance and love for you if not better. Her expression from her heart is indeed like your favorite drink with the sweeteners which blends and taste well with the aroma (2 in One). You effort in guiding and raising her indeed had a great impact on her life and not futile. A well respected/loved and highly appreciated mother who can put her head high as she strolls in her graceful walk among the public.

  2. When you had three elders as witness, judge, and jury to hear your complaints and to run for the tissue box - i knew then you are going to be a better person than your mum, even - 'coz you've got the right moves to make your opinions and complaints felt (while i only 'water the grass in my garden with my tears')... I knew my girl would manage her life well and that no man is going to 'bully' her - 'coz her action that day (to complain about her own dad and to have 3 witnesses on her side n her mum hoovering nearby, not taking sides openly,out of pity for the 'accused' and sympathy and apathy for the young - at 15? -'prosecutor' but agreeing to every lament she cried - about the lack of 'humanity' and the tender loving care that every female seeks...) told me so...
    That's my girl: matured, a young thinker and a young fighter - like her mum...?
    ... and i'm so proud of her, not only because she is my very own daughter, but also because she is exactly what i would want in my little girl: matured, fair, a young thinker and determined fighter...!
